Hi, I’m Rebecca!

I’m a 24-year-old student of Dutch & Italian nationality. Whilst doing my bachelor’s programme in English Language and Culture, I got the amazing opportunity to study abroad! I decided to explore my interest in media at Leeds Beckett University (UK), as I’ve always been fascinated by various forms of media such as photography, digital journalism, traditional journalism, film and audiovisual media. Once back in the Netherlands, I decided to follow a minor in Journalism, which allowed me to gain hands-on experience with writing journalistic products. Still eager to learn more about the current media and what it means to live in an era filled with digital media technologies, I decided to follow the MA Media Studies: Digital Cultures at Maastricht University.

My experience at Maastricht University so far has been amazing! First of all, I love the open and international atmosphere of the university! It has been great to meet people from all over the world and to study in an international environment. Secondly, I’ve also really been enjoying the Problem Based Learning-system that the university provides, in which you can combine theoretical analysis with practical skills. It’s a very unique aspect of the university and it provides the students with a wide skill-set for the world of digital media. It encourages you to be pro-active and to really dive into current issues in the field of media culture together with your peers. All in all, I’m very excited to learn more about media culture and digital technologies in the upcoming courses!

This blog will be a collection of my academic work during my master’s programme and will contain articles on the topic of media, digital technologies and the digitalisation of society. Don’t hesitate to take a look around!
