Reflection on term 2

Crazy how time flies. In one week term two is already over. In some ways this term was more stressful than the first one, even though I knew more so than in term one of what to expect. But the weeks just kept flying by and now with only one week to go it feels like an extremely tight race to the finish line. But maybe this is also a good moment to look back at what I did this term and see what I liked the most. Maybe one of these things could be a possible topic for a master thesis.

To start off with the Design Thinking and Maker culture course I think this was a very interesting class. I think I liked the concept of multimodality the most, maybe so because my group picked this for our group project. And as I and my teammates saw throughout our project it as a multifaceted one. I think therefore it gives a lot of room to further research. You could maybe look at some specific use case or even come up with your own idea of how to use multimodal elements within some specific field. I think this would be an interesting challenge for a thesis – coming up with your own idea basically.

For the second course of this term – Machines of Knowledge – I think it is harder for me to pick a specific concept or aspect. I think text analysis is a very interesting tool, which can be of great help if you want to analyze a big data set. But it is also rather complicated so I am not sure, if I want to do this for my final thesis. But let’s say I need to use it, as I am examining a big corpus on social media. I think the case has to be really interesting to me then. One topic from this class which comes to my mind is maybe the black lives matter movement or tweets related to Covid19. Both are very recent issues so you wouldn’t run into the problem of too much research being done on these topics already.

But let’s see what I pick at the end. Will be interesting if it will be one of these topics or something closely related.
