I have been looking at themes previews in WordPress for hours now. Just like I can struggle to pick an outfit to wear sometimes, I am struggling to choose what I want this blog to look like. To continue on the clothing metaphor, I guess you can never expect jeans to fit both your hips and waist and be the right length. I guess choosing a theme for a blog is similar; you need to pick your battle.
We were told that this blog should help present ourselves online, show a little bit of who we are. I already find it hard to figure that part out, but for the theme, I have to choose between pre-made designs. So even if I had an idea of what I want this blog to look like, it will probably be very different since I have to fit it into an already established structure.
Lots of colours or minimalist black and white? Images? What size? What font? The title on the right or in the center? What do I even want for a title?
So many options to choose from, it gets scary.
Have you ever felt like that? Overwhelmed by choices and possibilities? For example, wanting to watch a nice movie on Netflix but instead spending hours browsing through their catalogue, struggling to choose.
In his book, The Paradox of Choice – why more is less, Barry Schwartz explains that having too many choices can lead to anxiety. He advises several things, for example, to seek what is good enough, instead of seeking the best or to lower your expectations about the result of your actions.
Hence, I suppose I will be asking you to lower your expectations and excuse this blog if it ends up being just good enough (and a chaotic mess). I will try my best to make it make sense and hopefully the next posts will be more interesting.
Thank you for your visit, I hope you enjoy.
