My name is Anna and this blog is about media and my life.

Currently, I am completing my MA in Media Studies: Digital Cultures at UM. I want to understand our changing relationship to media, especially since COVID-19 has made sure that we absolutely cannot escape it.

A little about me: I was born in the Philippines but I left when I was a teenager. I received a generous scholarship from the Singapore government to continue my studies there, and I have been mostly abroad since. In 2015, I graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Communications and New Media. I also did an exchange semester in Canada. After uni I worked for six years, mostly in education. I was an English teacher and curriculum writer in Singapore for three years, worked as an assistant language teacher in Japan for two more, and afterwards, I briefly worked in consulting for Australian clients looking to open vocational training schools.

Like many people, I did some soul-searching during the pandemic. Ultimately it felt like the right time to go back to school – also in part because COVID-19 has forced us to embrace the digital in the form of WFH, online concerts, Google classrooms and so on. I’m working on my thesis right now, which is about K-pop livestreams during the pandemic. I’m so grateful for the opportunities here. It’s nice to be a student again and learn from wonderful people!

In my free time, I like to dance, watch films, cook, travel and learn new things. I also love nature (Fun fact: I completed a Geosciences minor in NUS!). In the near future, I hope to see the aurora in Norway and beautiful rock formations in Meteora, Greece.

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you find something you like here.
