Finally! After blood, sweat, tears and a few beers, we are proud to present you with our insight on Linguistic Landscape in Maastricht.
As you will see, we decided to focus on restaurants and bars, much to our enjoyment! Our first day of filming, we had a lovely pizza at the Ristorante Quattro Mori, followed by a refreshing Guinness in John Mullins. The second day, we enjoyed typical Thai Noodles in Tasty Thai!
We hope you enjoy this video, don’t hesitate to ask your questions in the comments!
Cheers,
Benjamin & Céline
For this After Babel video blog Ilija, Alexandra and I decided to look around in some foreign and “exotic” restaurants and shops in Maastricht. We conducted interviews with managers and employees working in 5 different establishments: The Oriental Supermarket, Chinese restaurant ‘Lotus’, Turkish shop ‘Yildiz Plaza’, restaurant ‘The India House’ and cafe ‘Bodega’ where we found diverse languages and a multitude of cultures. We hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment on your own linguistic identity!
For our video blog, my group and I decided that the best way to discover more about the different languages spoken in Maastricht, aside from Dutch and English, would be by conducting interviews with shop/restaurant owners from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We interviewed people working in Asian, Indian, Turkish and Spanish places and we found that there is quite a lot of linguistic diversity going on around in Maastrich. We hope you enjoy this video!
Sex sells, but which language sells sex best (-in an international city such as Maastricht)?
Bob and I set out to investigate this and some other pressing issues for you.
Hey people! ready for the new post?! This time it’s a video…. come and check it out!!!
this week you will get to know Maastricht a little bit- but not in the common sense. Most people, especially us students would surely associate Maastricht with Dutch, or optionally English, German and French. However, there are many more languages to be found within the city’s active life. For example: Mandarin!
