Health literacy

Reflecting on blogging as a group

What went well

During the start of this project we were fortunate enough to be placed in a group that immediately knew what we wanted to get out of this project: raise awareness about how health literacy presents multiple challenges to society. This created a steady foundation for our blog, making it coherent and structured as a whole while still presenting various different topics. Furthermore, our group dynamic was excellent! Planning meetups in person and via Zoom was fairly easy and this led to multiple productive and, certainly not less important, fun sessions. It has honestly been a pleasure working with this group!

What we could have done better

Indeed, as a group, we worked quite well together. But as there is always room for improvement, we could have done some things better. We agreed that we could have tried to divide the tasks more evenly, as this could have contributed to more organized group work. Also, setting more deadlines within our group could have led to better time management. But all in all, we managed to work very well together and we consider it completely normal, that we had to face some of the most common problems of group works.

How to deal with teamwork challenges?

As mentioned earlier we did face some troubles, specifically when it came to allocating how much time we would spend on certain sections of the blog. This could have been prevented by setting strict deadlines, however, considering the challenges we faced of having to meet through Zoom , we believe we did the best we could. Another issue that we believe needs addressing was the fact that we could have spent more time giving each other feedback. Considering that we have five brilliant brains in the group, it would have been very beneficial do so, however, because we were predominantly focusing on our individual sections, we may have been preoccupied with ensuring that our own blogs were up to standard. Because of this, we believe that this issue could have been solved by dedicating a specific day to reading each other’s blogs while keeping in mind what the person did well and what needs improvement.

Would we do something differently if we had to do it again?

To sum all this up, we think that if we were to do something like this project again we should do it in a more structured way. Specifically, more meeting on regular times would help to spread out work, and allow us to set deadlines for upcoming sessions, making them easy to stick to. These deadlines would be for giving feedback specifically, or finishing a draft, or anything like that. This way the workload would be split more evenly and each meeting would be more manageable in scale. Overall, however, we wouldn’t change too much, this was a project we very much enjoyed.
