Introduction

Hello and welcome to this humble media blog. Here I will be discussing various mediums, media theories, the application and significance of theses theories as well as methods for researching media. The methodology will be primarily focused on semiotics and discourse analysis. The main theme is “Logo and Imago”. While the idea of logo and images associated with brands, concepts and ideas are somewhat inherently understood by all and constitute part of our culture, here we will explore their changing and complex nature.

On a more personal note, while my personal interests lie more within digital and online media, this blog will aim to also cover a range of traditional media that we know and love such as TV or print media. The theory I will go deeper into may just reveal as the will progress that the newer digital and the older media are not disconnected, however not to confuse this blog will not deal with the concept of new media as much as the communication of meaning, how it is represented and how to extract it. Not to mention how that meaning is marketed.

The blog is structured in four workshops with two blog posts posted approximately each week. The first workshops will cover the initial topic of “Logo and Imago” which will deal with signs and semiotics. The second will be about the more methodological topic of discourse. The third focuses on TV and marketing. And the last one will bring forth the contemporary topic of viral and social media. In the end there will be a final post which you will have to look forward to as it will be a synthesis of multiple topics we are yet to cover.
