about

My name is Camila MelĂcia Valgas, I am a 25-years-old Brazilian journalist currently studying the master’s program Media Studies: Digital Cultures at Maastricht University. During my time exercising the journalistic duty in Brazil, I have worked on subjects such as abortion, the prison system, and drug legalization.

While learning from researches and interviewing specialists in each area, I realized that the Brazilian government system that handles social problems is only punishing disadvantaged people. I came to the Netherlands to study and enhance my expertise to work for social improvement, and also to live in a country known for its public policies that strive for the population’s welfare.

During this master’s program, I hope to be able to learn more about the communication field to accomplish my main professional goal: to develop projects that give the next generations an inclusive future regardless of their economic background, nurturing seeds of social conscience, and respect for diverse realities.

My major interests are immersive journalism, algorithmic bias, design thinking, participatory culture, and data feminism. I like to write, photograph, and record/edit videos.
